Biography

Prof. Ibrahim Hussaini Doko hails from Doko, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State was born on the 24th of September, 1962. His educational pursuits began at the North Primary School, Doko from 1968-1974 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate, He subsequently obtained his West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) with an outstanding performance from the Government Secondary School, Kotangora from 1974-1979.

His relentless pursuit of academic success led him to further his higher education at the School of basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU), Zaria where he did his ‘A’ levels (IJMB), before he enrolled into the full degree programme of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to study Textile Science and Technology in 1980. He obtained his first degree in 1984 with an outstanding performance that won him the Oba of Benin prize for Best Final year Student of the Department of Textile Science and Technology, ABU, Zaria. As a result of his outstanding academic performance, he was offered immediate employment as a Graduate Assistant at ABU, Zaria after his completion of the mandatory one year National Youth Service (NYSC) programme.

Consequently, He began his Master’s degree programme at ABU, Zaria but the complex nature of his chosen area of study and the lack of specialist in the area compelled him to undertake part of the research requirements in the UK at the prestigious Leeds University. Upon completion, he further enrolled for and completed his Doctorate programme from the same University in 1993.

He began his public career as a Graduate assistant with Ahmadu Bello University in 1985, and rose to the post of Lecturer 1 in the same University before he joined the Raw Materials Research and Development as an Assistant Scientific Officer and later rose to Chief Scientific Officer/ Head of Division in 1996. Due to his hardworking nature and commitment to the organization, He rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director in-charge of research, Evaluation and Monitoring. In October 2002, following a series of written examinations and by the special grace of God, He emerged as the Director of the Industrial Chemicals and Minerals Department (ICMD), RMRDC.

Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim was appointed the 5th Substantive Director General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, with effect from the 8th of April, 2014. In the course of his public career as university lecturer, staff of the Council and at Inter-ministerial levels, Prof. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim, has served in several committees, such as; Departmental Committee for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes; Junior and Senior Staff Disciplinary Committees; Technical and editorial Committees of RMRDC’s publications; National Consultative Committee on the Industrialization of Scientific Research results (NCCISRR), Federal Ministry of Science an d Technology; National Committee on Deletion Programme for Industrial Raw Materials, Inter-ministerial Committee on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency; Vice Chairman of the National Strategy for Raw Materials and Products Development among several others.

Hussaini Doko Ibrahim was elevated to the coveted status of a professor by ABU Zaria in 2019 based on his academic prowess, he has over 120 publications in journals and books. He has served and is currently serving as governing board member of Some government Agencies like the National Automotive Council (NAC)-a government agency and some Organised Private Sector like MAN, etc. He has travelled widely in the course of his official assignments to several countries of the world, some of which are in Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) and a host of other countries.

 He is a member of several professional bodies including Chartered Textile Technologist of Textile Institute; C. TEXT (A.T.I), United Kingdom; Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC);             Fellow, Institute of Chartered Trustees, Nigeria (FICTr); Fellow Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON); Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM); Fellow, Polymer Institute of Nigeria (FPIN); Fellow Institute of Corporate Administrator (FCAI); Fellow, Materials Society of Nigeria (MMSN) and Fellow Institute of Mechanical Engineering, just to mention a few.

Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim’s experience in life, both personally and professionally are inexhaustible. Suffice it to say that these varied and rich experiences prepared me for the important role of Director General of the nation’s leading organization on raw materials development and exploitation, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, RMRDC. I am happily married with five children.

Professor Hussaini Doko Ibrahim was among other eminent Nigerias who received the National Productivity Order of Merit Award in 2019.
