Abstract

The Ekiti State co-ordina.ting Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in collaboration with the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry and State Miners Association organised a one-day workshop with the theme "Sustainable Development of Mineral Potentials of Ekiti". The event which took place on 3rd December, 2009 was held at the Cultural Centre, Ado-Ekiti. The Director-General of RMRDC, Engr. (Prof.) Azikiwe Peter Onwualu represented by Mr. S. O. Ogunsola (Chief Planning Officer), in his welcome address stated that Nigeria has very large population (of over 140 million people) and is endowed with vast arable land and a wide variety of mineral deposits. Ekiti State has massive wealth of untapped mineral resources amongst which are kaolin, ball clay, bauxitic clay, feldspar, cassiterite, columbite and tantalite. Solid minerals development should be encouraged in response to the Federal Government policy measures for the promotion of cottage and small-scale enterprises.
