Salt is a mineral that is composed primarily of sodium chloride
with the chemical compound NaCl, made up of the elements
sodium and chlorine. It varies in colour from colourless, when
pure, to white, grey or brownish, typically of rock salt (halite). Salt flavour is one of the basic tastes, making salt one of the ubiquitous food seasonings. In chemistry, common salt is only one of a large number of electrolytic compounds classified as salts. Chemically, it is 60.66 % chloride (CI)and 39.33 % sodium (Na). It Occursnaturally in many parts of the world as the mineral halite and as mixed evaporates in salt lakes. According to report by the Salt Institute, USA,seawater contains an average of 2.6 % (by weight) NaCl, or 26 million metric tonnes cubic kilometer (120 million short tonnes per cubic mile, an inexhaustible supply).
